Both the zoom binoculars and the switch/Power binoculars have experienced some confusion mainly because of their migration away from the traditional single, fixed power ratings (i.e. 8 X 42) and the method of designating their power ratings. While both sets of binoculars offer two or more magnification levels from a single unit, their construction and operations differ greatly from one model to the other.
