Lyric Opera of Los Angeles at the George & Sakaye Aratani Japan America Theatre

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 20, 2006

The Lyric Opera of Los Angles (LOLA) is proud to announce that they will be presenting two Rare Operas at the Acclaimed George & Sakaye Aratani Japan American Theatre in Los Angeles.

The 2006/2007 season is the largest to date, with scheduled performances of Giuseppe Verdi’s Un Giorno di Regno in October, W.A. Mozart’s charming one-act “Bastien und Bastienne” in December, and Wagner’s Das Lebisverbot in May. These three productions will set new standards for The Lyric Opera of Los Angeles and marks the beginning of a long-term relationship between LOLA and the Japan American Theatre.

Verdi’s 1840 comedy, Un Giorno di Regno, tells the tale of the Polish monarch, King Stanislaus who is in hiding because of a War of Succession. In order to return to his rightfull throne, he sends in a decoy in the person of a French officer to the castle of the Barone di Kelbar, the false ruler. The Baron recently has arranged political alliances by marrying off his daughter and nice. But, to their grief, the women have other loves. On the day the real king is maneuvering to regain his throne, the false king is maneuvering to block the arranged marriages and deliver the women to their true loves.

This is a 19th century comic opera replete with mix-ups and misunderstandings. It was so popular that Verdi was commissioned to make a new musical setting of this existing text. In only his second opera, we hear the young Verdi begin to emerge from contemporary musical models to forge the language that was to become his own.

Music is performed in Italian, and supertitles are provided to help your understanding of the story throughout the performance. This production includes a full-orchestra.

Wagner’s 1834 comedy, Das Liebesverbot, tells a tale of love, loss and deception 19th Century Sicilian style.

The king temporarily takes leave of the country and hands over authority to his puritanical Regent, Friedrich. Right away, the Regent decides to take on offences to morality by enacting laws making certain acts of love punishable by death. By various twists and turns of the plot, Friedrich is caught with his own pants down. At the early age of 21, Richard Wagner composed this opera based on Shakespeare’s comedy, Measure for Measure.

Wagner’s fascination with problems of love and death would be a common theme in all his subsequent works. In Das Liebesverbot (The Ban on Love), Wagner’s second work and the first to be performed, we hear the influence of Beethoven and Weber – but especially interesting is hearing the distinct Wagner sound at his earliest and most lyrical period.

Music is performed in German, and supertitles are provided to help your understanding of the story throughout the performance. This production includes a full-orchestra.

In addition to these two rarities, the Lyric Opera of Los Angeles is proud to bring the company westward, to Santa Monica for a special benefit presentation of Mozart’s opera Bastien und Bastienne at the Edgemar Center for the Arts in December. Written at the age of 12, Bastien und Bastienne tells the tale of two star struck, if not confused lovers. While each suspects the other of infidelity, they separately seek council in the great soothsayer Colas. After realizing that their worries are in vain, Bastien and Bastienne rejoice in their happiness, and live happily ever after.

Music is performed in German, dialogue in English, and supertitles are provided to help your understanding of the story throughout the performance. This production includes a small chamber orchestra.

White Shark Breaching And Viewing In Cape Town

Great White Shark Breaching – Air Jaws

There is only one place in the world where you can go on a boat and trawl a try to provoke a Great White Shark to breach out of the water. Just imagine cruising along watching a rubber cutout of a seal bobbing around 20 yards behind the boat and at any time you might witness the apex predator of the oceans burst through the surface into the air.

2006 NFL Football Draft Picks have been Disappointing as We Hit the Midway Mark of the NFL Football Season and SportsWager.com has Taken Notice

2006 NFL Football Draft Picks have been Disappointing as We Hit the Midway Mark of the NFL Football Season and SportsWager.com has Taken Notice

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 10, 2006

The players at SportsWager.com have noticed that #1 2006 NFL football draft pick Mario Williams who went to the Houston Texans in a bonehead draft decision by the Texans has been pretty much a bust. He has 4.5 sacks at the midway point but that is not worthy of the first pick in the draft. The Texans were a longshot to win the Super Bowl before the season and have no chance now. #2 pick Reggie Bush of the New Orleans Saints hasn’t been much better. Many people thought Bush was a certain Hall of Famer but he has not been used extensively by the Saints. He has been more of a decoy and a pass receiver than a runner. Whether or not his talents will shine in the second half of the season or in future seasons remains to be seen. We do know that just one touchdown is not going to cut if for the #2 pick in the 2006 NFL football draft. The Saints were also a longshot before the season to win the Super Bowl but they have been one of the surprise teams in the NFL this year. They are a 4 point road underdog at SportsWager.com against the defending Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers this week.

The #3 pick in the 2006 NFL football draft was Vince Young and he has had his ups and downs in his first season at quarterback with Tennessee. It is tough for a rookie quarterback and the jury is still out on Young. The same jury is still out on #10 pick Matt Leinart who has taken over the quarterback job in Arizona. Leinart started strong but has struggled lately. Rookie quarterbacks always have it tough and that is definitely the case for Young and Leinart.

D’Brickashaw Ferguson of the Jets was the 4th pick of the draft and has performed well and played in every game, as has #5 pick A.J. Hawk of the Green Bay Packers. #6 pick Vernon Davis has only played in three games so the verdict is still out on him, although he was expected to be an impact player. #7 pick Michael Huff of the Raiders has shown signs of being a very good player but it is hard to showcase your skills on a terrible team. #8 pick Donte Whitner of the Buffalo Bills has performed quite well. The Bills were ripped for taking Whitner so high in the draft but he has played extremely well at safety for them. The #9 pick Ernie Sims of the Lions has played well at starting linebacker and could turn into a good pick for the Lions. That would be a huge surprise considering the front office of Detroit hasn’t done anything intelligent in years.

Most of the other 2006 NFL football draft picks have made minimal impacts but we want to mention two running backs. The 21st pick, Laurence Maroney from Minnesota, who went to the Patriots already has over 1,000 all purpose yards for New England and has looked like an excellent late first round pick. The same thing can be said of Joseph Addai, the Colts pick at #30 who has taken over the starting running back job and leads all NFL rookies in rushing.

Last year’s #1 pick Alex Smith is playing better for San Francisco but still is a below average NFL quarterback. One of the better players from the 2005 draft has been Carnell Williams. The “Cadillac” has been a key player for the Bucs and when healthy has proven to be an excellent NFL running back.

Oral Cancer Kills Someone in the United States Every Hour of Every Day: Delta Dental Encourages Americans to Request Oral Cancer Exams from Dentists in Recognition of National Oral Cancer Awareness Week (April 16-22)

Oral Cancer Kills Someone in the United States Every Hour of Every Day: Delta Dental Encourages Americans to Request Oral Cancer Exams
from Dentists in Recognition of National Oral Cancer Awareness Week
(April 16-22)

BusinessWire

OKEMOS, Mich. (PRWEB) April 19, 2007

Oral cancer exams are quick, painless and involve an evaluation of the mouth, gums, throat and tongue by a licensed dentist using a piece of gauze to move the tongue from side-to-side. A revolutionary tool called the OralCDx brush biopsy can catch oral cancer in its early stages, or even as a precancerous lesion. The test is painless and involves merely rubbing the brush against a suspicious red or white spot in the mouth to collect a cell sample. Delta Dental is one of the first dental benefits providers in the U.S. to add coverage of the brush biopsy to its core group of covered services.

“We know few people are even aware of this deadly, yet preventable disease,” said Dr. Jed Jacobson, senior vice president of professional services and chief science officer at Delta Dental. “It’s crucial for people to ask their dentist for an oral cancer exam during their regular checkup. We also encourage more dentists to adopt use of the brush biopsy.”

OralCDx Laboratories, Inc. of New York holds a patent on the brush biopsy, approved in 2000 by the Federal Drug Administration. The brush biopsy is based on the technology used in the Star Wars anti-missile system. It detects precancerous and cancerous cells in healthy tissue the same way the defense satellites were designed to detect real missiles from decoys.

Although oral cancer is among the most deadly forms of cancer, few people are aware of the risks. A recent EPIC-MRA Omnibus survey of 600 Michigan adults revealed little-to-no awareness of oral cancer, or its signs and symptoms. The study also showed that when respondents were asked to list three forms that cancer can take, not one person named oral cancer.

Early detection saves lives

Like many cancers, the key to surviving oral cancer is early detection. Detecting oral cancer in its early stages is imperative and can dramatically increase the five-year survival rate from approximately 57 percent to 81 percent.

Dentists play a crucial role in calling attention to some of oral cancer’s common symptoms by performing an oral cancer exam on patients. Symptoms include:

— Red or white spots that appear on the gums, cheeks or under the tongue

— Swelling of the tongue or throat

— A lump in the mouth or neck

— Painful or difficulty swallowing or chewing

— Numbness in the mouth region

— Vocal hoarseness that lasts for an extended time

— Tiny marks that resemble canker sores

— Sores that bleed and don’t heal (in later stages)

Who is at risk?

Oral cancer is most common in men, African Americans, adults over 40, smokers and heavy alcohol drinkers. However, one out of four cases occur in non-smokers and people under age 30. Other causes include too much sun exposure to the lips and poor diet. Over the past several years, there has been an increase in the number of young people and women developing oral cancer who do not have traditional risk factors.

Oral cancer treatment and cost savings from early detection

In addition to saving lives, early detection has the potential to significantly reduce medical treatment costs. Oral cancer is one of the most expensive forms to treat, with an advanced case costing upward of $ 200,000. Patients with oral cancer treated in its early stages face less chances of post-treatment disfigurement. When detected early, treatment tends to be more conservative, producing fewer complications and permanent disfigurements.

Did you hear about the Drinking Deer Hunters?

June 28th, 2011 5 comments

Question by g4acre: Did you hear about the Drinking Deer Hunters?
Drinking Deer Hunters

One night at a local bar frequented by a bunch of deer hunters who were waiting for the opening day of deer season, the local sheriff scoped out the joint for possible drunk drivers.

As he waited, eventually a patron stumbled out of the bar, fumbled for his keys, tried them in three different cars until he finally found his, got inside and rested his head on the steering wheel. The deputy knew he had his drunk driver, so now all he had to do was wait for him to start his engine and pull out of the lot.

A few hours passed by and most of the other deer hunters had left by then, when the patron abruptly lifted his head, cranked the car up and drove out of the lot like a bat out of hell. The deputy followed him and stopped him promptly. He administered the breath-o-lizer test and it read 0.00.

Confused, the deputy asked the driver what the hell was going on. The driver looked at him innocently and said, “Well, tonight I’m the designated decoy.”

Q&A: First the joke, then the question?

June 27th, 2011 9 comments

Question by Jimmy: First the joke, then the question?
After last call, an officer noticed a man leaving the bar so drunk that he could barely walk. The man stumbled around the parking lot and trying his keys on five different vehicles, the man managed to find his car. He sat there for a few minutes, as a number of other patrons left the bar and drove off. Finally he started the car. He flicked the blinkers on, then off a couple of times, honked the horn and switched on the lights. At last, the parking lot empty, he pulled out of the parking lot and started to drive slowly down the road. The police officer now started up the patrol car, put on the lights and pulled the man over and preformed a breath test. To his amazement, the breathalyzer indicated no evidence of the man having consumed any alcohol at all! The officer said, “I’ll have to ask you to accompany me to the police station. This breathalyzer equipment must be broken.” “I doubt it,” said the drunkard. “Tonight I’m the designated decoy.”
Could you be charged for this?

Think Only Politicians Cheat On Their Spouses? Think Again, Says Top San Francisco Bay Area Private Investigator

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) April 1, 2008

Former New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer; his successor, Gov. David Paterson; Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick…it seems infidelity has becoming a staple of the high profile life. But don’t be fooled–it’s not just the men making headlines who are cheating! A new USA TODAY/Gallup poll showed that 54% of Americans personally know someone who has an unfaithful spouse. As cheating becomes more and more mainstream, suspicious spouses are increasingly turning to professionals like San Francisco Bay Area private investigations firm Butler & Associates for help.

Claire Ellison* later admitted that her fingers trembled as she dialed the telephone number for Butler & Associates, a private investigations firm based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She’d found the agency through its Web site, http://uncover-truth.com/. The Chicago woman’s husband was flying into San Francisco for a conference that night, and she had a feeling the trip wasn’t going to be strictly business. Her instinct was right: the next day Butler’s team of investigators FedExed Ms. Ellison a DVD containing footage captured with a hidden camera. In it, her husband undressed a busty blond in his hotel room.

“I never would have known,” the mother of four told Chris Butler, the former law enforcement officer who heads the agency. “For so long he lied to me and told me I was just paranoid, that I was crazy. And you know, I’d started to believe it!”

After more than a decade as a P.I. specializing in infidelity, Butler can say with confidence that very few of his clients are wrong. Or crazy.

“That’s simply what their spouses would like them to believe,” he says. “Men and women who cheat tend to become experts at manipulating the people closest to them, and at convincing them to believe whatever story they spin. Do I think that Spitzer’s wife knew her husband had spent $ 80,000 on prostitutes? Probably not. But I bet she had her suspicions over the years–and I’ll bet he talked his way out of them.”

The ex-governor’s wife may have been wise to turn to Butler. Using creative tactics employed by few other private investigations firms, his company uncovers information for clients about their spouses’ behavior that helps enable clients to make important decisions about the future. Whether working on a case in San Francisco or further afield in New York City, Canada or the United Kingdom–all places investigators have hit the ground running in recent months–the firm consistently delivers professional results. Among the firm’s most popular services are installing undetectable GPS tracking devices in vehicles to enable clients to track their spouses’ movements online, orchestrating stings utilizing attractive female decoys to test husbands’ fidelity, and conducting undercover surveillance.

Comprehensive information about the firm’s services and personnel, along with pricing, can be found on its Web site, http://uncover-truth.com/. For additional information, or to request an interview with Butler or a member of his staff, see the contact details below. Note that the agency does not adhere to standard business hours; phones are answered day and night. And that’s just the way Butler likes it.

“We understand that the problems our clients are experiencing are real and oftentimes emotionally charged. We encourage our clients to call us as often as they desire; we do not charge for conversations like attorneys,” says Butler. “Failure to address serious problems often has traumatic, devastating consequences.”

*Client’s name has been changed to protect her privacy.

About Butler & Associates:

With a highly-trained in-house staff, coupled with a vast network comprised of former F.B.I., Secret Service, and law enforcement personnel, Butler & Associates Private Investigations is a national leader in the field of infidelity investigations. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, investigators undertake local, national and international cases for clients who will stop at nothing less than uncovering the absolute truth.

at closing time watching for someone who was the most intoxicated to pull over and give a DUI. He observed a man come out of the bar and try his key in 3 different vehicles before finding his. The drunk guy sat in his car and waited until everyone else had left and then pulled out of the parking lot.
The officer pulled him over a block from the bar, walked up to the car and asked the man if he had been drinking..the man said “no, I’m the designated decoy!”

Q&A: How’s This For A Smart Texan?

June 18th, 2011 2 comments

Question by Russian T: How’s This For A Smart Texan?
Recently a routine police patrol parked outside a bar in Austin, TX.

After last call, the officer noticed a man leaving the Bar, apparently so intoxicated that he could barely walk. The man stumbled around the
parking lot for a few minutes, with the officer quietly observing.

After what seemed an eternity and trying his keys on five different vehicles, the man managed to find his car which he fell into. He sat there for a few minutes as a number of other patrons left the bar and drove off.

Finally he started the car, switched the wipers on and off (it was a fine, dry summer night)– flicked the blinkers on, then off a couple of
times, honked the horn and then switched on the lights. He moved the vehicle forward a few inches, reversed a little and then remained still for a few more minutes as some more of the other patron vehicles left.

At last, the parking lot empty, he pulled out of the parking lot and started to drive slowly down the road. The police officer, having patiently waited all this time, now started up the patrol car, put on the flashing lights, and promptly pulled the man over and carried out a Breathalyzer test.

To his amazement the Breathalyzer indicated no evidence of the man having consumed any alcohol at all!! Dumbfounded, the officer said, “I’ll have to ask you to accompany me to the police station. This Breathalyzer equipment must be broken”.

“I doubt it,” said the truly proud Cowboy. “Tonight I’m the Designated Decoy.”

Bird Proof Your Home for Spring

(Vocus) March 18, 2009

Spring is a busy time for birds. Warmer temperatures increase food sources, and birds are on the look out for new nesting spots, and mates. Whether they are returning from a winter migration or resident birds weary from a long winter hall, they have a lot of work to be done before autumn.

Birds are in survival mode in the spring. In order to get through the next winter, they will be searching for spots that provide the elements needed to survive. Most homes and gardens provide the three elements necessary for a birds’ survival;

    Food
    Water
    Shelter

Whether you anticipate birds returning to your home, or are dealing with a pest bird problem now, addressing these three elements will make it easy to bird proof a home for the spring. Taking away food or water sources, and blocking off ideal nesting spots like dryer vents and eaves will help send pest birds packing.

Doing a quick check around the home in the beginning stages of spring can mean the difference between successfully deterring pest birds or not. Have you had a recurring problem with nesting birds? If yes, treating these spots with deterrents before the birds return will yield better results than waiting until they have come back. Once they begin to build a nest, birds will be more persistent about keeping the spot.

Common places pest birds like to nest:

    Dryer Vents
    Eaves
    Open Attics
    Garages, Barns or Boathouses
    Under roof tiles
    Under A.C. units

Checking these areas for nesting materials will clue you in as to whether this may be a problem spot. Birds like to nest high, so check beams, ledges, and rafters. If there are nesting materials, a cleanup is essential. Bird droppings and nests can host disease and parasites. A good cleaning will not only protect you and your family from any disease, but also eliminate scents that help a bird identify their old nest.

There are many different bird deterrents available in today’s market that can be use for a wide variety of problems. Bird Deterrents usually fit into Four categories;

Visual Bird Deterrents

Visual deterrents are meant to been seen by birds, to frighten or scare them away from open areas. Visual deterrents will have shiny reflective surfaces, or mock predator features. Visual bird deterrents include Mylar flash tape, Scare Eye Diverters, and Balloons. There are also decoys like owls available. These items work best when hung right in front of a problem area. When the bird fly’s towards the spot, they will see the visual deterrents and get confused or frightened, and want to avoid the area.

Sound Deterrents for Birds

Sound deterrents use recorded bird calls to deter pest birds from large open spaces. A mixture of predator calls, and distress calls can be used to alert birds in the surrounding area of danger. Most sound deterrents are weatherproof and designed for outdoor use. These are ideal to use when you have a large open space to treat. Sound deterrents include the Bird Chase Super Sonic.

Physical Bird Deterrents

Physical deterrents are used to block or prevent birds from gaining access to the area they desire. Physical deterrents include bird netting, and ledge products like the Bird Spike 2000, Bird Slope, and Bird Jolt Flat Track. Bird netting is installed as a screen to block birds from entering areas. Bird Spike, Bird Slope, Bird Gel and Jolt are all used on ledges to prevent birds from landing.

Liquid Bird Repellents

There are also a few liquid repellents used for discouraging birds. Pest control companies can work with fogging machines, or Misting units to deter birds from large open spaces.

Used in these two types of devices are a non toxic grape extract that irritate a birds mucous membranes. If you had a large tree in your backyard where hundreds of birds were congregating, you could call out a pest control company to fog or mist the tree to repel the birds.

There are also live bird traps, and a few other types of bird deterrents available. Knowing what type of bird you are having a problem with, and considering the area that is being affected will help in choosing the best product for the situation. Contacting a bird control company like Absolute Bird Control or Bird-B-Gone can also help ensure that you have chosen the right product. You also have the choice of calling a local pest control company, most pest control companies can help with a pest bird problem.

If this is the first year you are having problems with nesting birds, or had caught the problem too late, there is still hope. As long as you address the bird problem as soon as you notice it, and continue a campaign of harassment, you should have good luck in ridding your home of pest birds.

Bird Control for Yards and Gardens

June 17th, 2011 Comments off

While it’s nice to have rows of flowers in the garden, it’s not so nice to watch flocks of birds destroy your hard work. Without effective bird control, pest birds such as sparrows, swallows, pigeons and crows can and will invade your yard or garden to feed themselves and their young. Blackbirds, starlings, and robins will waste no time yanking out tasty corn seedlings, or chewing into ripening cherries, peaches and blueberries. They also won’t hesitate to crater your lawn

Loren Borkholder Announces Launch of Borkholder Archery’s New E-Commerce Website

Milford, IN (PRWEB) April 3, 2009

Loren Borkholder announced today the launch of his company’s website, http://www.borkholderarchery.com. Located at 72945 County Road 17 in Milford, Indiana, the full service archery pro shop contains archery supplies and equipment for sportsmen nationwide.

“We are excited to provide archery enthusiasts opportunities to make purchases from a huge selection of archery equipment and have access to top flight compound bow tuning; what we refer to as the Super Tune,” said Loren Borkholder.

With 50 years of archery experience, the staff at Borkholder Archery gladly assists everyone from the first time archer to the experienced bowhunter. “It does not matter where the sportsman purchased their archery equipment,” says Borkholder. “We are glad they are here so that we can assist them in making their bow perform at its optimum ability.”

The “Super Tune” is the process that Borkholder Archery performs to achieve that performance. The staff inspects, services and tunes the bow with a state of the art machine that actually shoots the bow. By removing the human element from the shooting process, the bow gives a consistent shot every time. The staff tunes arrows, rest, nock point, and cam timing to get the shot as precise as possible. The launching of the company’s website provides this service to not only local customers but those customers located around the country.

Borkholder Archery was started in 1998, by Loren Borkholder in a small corner of space carved into his garage. 11 years later, the business has expanded to a 3000 square foot retail facility and Mr. Borkholder made the business his fulltime profession.

Borkholder Archery carries archery equipment to prepare for the next trip into the great outdoors. The selection of bows presents customers with the ability to customize their hunting experience. The wide variety of compound bows includes names like Alpine, Browning, Diamond, Escalade, and Martin. Recurve and longbows connect customers with a part of the sports history. Eastman, TenPoint, Barnett and Darton are a sample of the crossbow manufacturers listed online. Feathers, arrow shafts, and paints create custom arrows for the do-it-yourself sportsman. Archers find many different points and broadheads for deer, turkey and target shooting.

In addition to archery supplies, Borkholder Archery also sells paintball guns, clothing and gear preparing players for each game. Blowguns by Cajun Archery provide a unique and challenging shooting experience with a different style. Purchase darts and foam targets online to increase skill with this tool. Air rifles and pistols provide tactical precision from Beeman, Crosman, and Daisy. With muzzleloaders from Lyman Products, Remington Arms, and Traditions, hunters will find guns and the accessories to shoot, maintain and protect their purchase.

The huge list of archery supplies contains the gear to make each and every outdoor excursion a successful one.

Browse the extensive list from suppliers like Artic Shield, Badlands and Rivers West for clothing that conceals scent and hides sportsmen from their prey while keeping warm. The catalog of footwear, gloves, hats and masks protect the rest of a hunter’s body from the elements.

Brunton leads the way with GPS that is waterproof and portable to list major cities, roadways, rivers, and lakes across the country. The movements of the target are clear with binoculars by Nikon, Stealth Cam, Alpen Outdoor and others.

To maximize the life of any gun or bowhunting purchase, Borkholder archery carries cleaning supplies, lubricants and cases to maintain and protect your equipment. Cleaners and cloths remove fingerprints and smudges while preventing scratches to optic lenses. Lubricants for bows and guns keep metal on metal parts moving without attracting dust and grime. Odor free oil is available for scent free lubrication of all hunting weapons providing one more advantage for any hunter. Protect all compound bows or muzzleloaders with cases by Aim, MTM Molded Products, and Vanguard in between hunting trips.

Hunting blinds provide concealment in a wide variety of ways. Ground blinds from Ameristep, Double Bull Archery and Hunters Specialties hide hunters at the same level as their quarry while providing 360 degrees of visibility. North Starr, Out of Sight TrophyLine are among the many tree stands that provide elevation for a bird’s eye view of the area. Bring the target into the shooting lane with decoys from Buckwing, Delta, Flambeau and Renzos.

Whether their choice is a compound bow or muzzleloader, Borkholder Archery invites all outdoor enthusiasts to visit their website to prepare themselves for their next hunt.

Luxury Mountaintop Home & Acreage Outside Asheville to Be Sold at Absolute Auction

Kansas City, MO (Vocus) May 14, 2010

Luxury mountaintop home and acreage outside Asheville to be sold at absolute auction. United Country – Rogers Auctioneers to sell custom timber frame home and 10 acres on June 5. Qualified buyers will have the opportunity to purchase a private, luxurious estate just minutes from downtown Asheville next month. The 10 acres will be sold in three tracts that may be purchased separately or in combination. Valued at more than $ 1 million, the property will be sold to the highest bidder, regardless of price.

In addition to the 3,300 square foot home and 10 acres of ridge top land, collectibles and vehicles also will be sold on June 5. Personal property being sold at the auction include a 2003 Cadillac CTS, 2006 Coachmen travel trailer, 14’ jon boat, Massey Ferguson farm tractor and implements, 25hp riding mower with bagger, hunting equipment, Polaris and Honda ATVs, Ford truck, guns, contemporary and antique furniture, wildlife art, vintage decoys and sports collectibles.

Conducted by Michael Rogers, auctioneer and president of United Country – Rogers Auctioneers, the live auction will take place onsite at 385 Warm Springs Road in Alexander, N.C. Registration for the event will begin at 8 a.m., and the auction will take place at 9 a.m. The real estate and personal property will be available for viewing by appointment beginning June 4 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and two hours prior to the event.

“This property is being sold as a living estate. Our sellers have decided to sell everything and travel, and they recognize the value of using an accelerated method of marketing – in other words, an auction – to sell their property,” said Rogers. “What does this mean for buyers? It means they have the opportunity to purchase a beautiful luxury home with pristine acreage at an affordable price. Today’s market conditions and the auction format allow sellers and buyers to come to a meeting of the minds quickly with a competitively achieved fair market value. In times like these, an auction is the best way to establish what real market value is.”

No expense was spared when this home was built. The custom home features a large master bedroom with walk-in closets and an oversized two-car garage, and its hand-cut frame was made with lumber harvested from the site. The home offers three bedrooms, three and one-half baths and three fireplaces, and the master bathroom features a beautiful marble mosaic tile floor and mountain scenery hand-painted on the walls by a local artist. The downstairs bedroom has its own fireplace and could be used as a den or game room, while a small upstairs bedroom could be easily enlarged by expanding into an adjoining closet.

Located just 5 miles from a new shopping center and 13 miles from downtown Asheville, N.C., this estate sits on 10 secluded, rolling acres with spectacular mountain views. Though the property is merely minutes of Interstate 40 and Interstate 26, all surrounding land is restricted and the home sits within a mile of the French Broad River and Sandy Mush Game Lands, which offer world-class fishing, rafting, hiking and more.

“This auction is the chance of a lifetime. Buyers have the rare opportunity to buy their dream home in a recreational paradise and one of Money magazine’s top 10 places to retire,” said Rogers. “If you’re looking for a private, beautiful home in an exceptional location, look no further!”

Detailed information about the home for sale, as well as details about the auctions, can be found online at http://www.RogersAuction.com or by calling 919-545-0412.

1867 Confederation Log & Timber Frame Homes to Showcase Everything from Cottages to Stunning Home Improvements

Confederation timber frame structure welcoming show attendees

Bobcaygeon, ON (PRWEB) November 19, 2010

Transforming the concepts and dreams of customers into custom built log or timber frame homes is still the core business of 1867 Confederation Log & Timber Frame Homes.

But at this year’s Cottage Life Show, Confederation plans to showcase one of the company’s fastest growth areas – home and cottage improvement projects, projects that range from timber frame accents to new entranceways to outdoor sunrooms.

And to make sure this message comes across loud and clear, a Confederation-built timber frame structure will be the focal point of the show’s ‘Outdoor Canada Lodge’, a large 50×40 foot booth that will welcome visitors as they enter the show. The Outdoor Canada Lodge is designed to capture the essence of the show and impart a ‘classic outdoor Canadian setting’ and in addition to Confederation’s white pine timber frame structure, will include such iconic elements as an ice fishing hut, a tent, a snowmobile, antique decoys and a Muskoka Brewery sampling bar.

“There’s still a strong interest on the part of consumers to build log and timber frame homes or a hybrid of the two,” observes 1867 Confederation Log and Timber Frame Home president Rick Kinsman. “But in terms of numbers, there are a lot more people out there who are looking at creative ways they can enhance and add value to their existing cottage or home.”

Kinsman says number one on the list of enhancements customers come to them for is to design and build timber frame accents either for a great room or to enhance the exterior of a home. These can be either structural and capable of bearing a load or simply cosmetic. “It’s the type of upgrade that makes people feel better about their homes and it can also add to the bottom line appeal and value of your home.”

Whether looking to enhance an existing home or build a new one, Confederation will have professional design consultants on hand throughout the show at their booth #1620 to answer any questions show attendees may have.

Additional Details

The show takes place November 26-28 at the International Centre, 6900 Airport Road, in Mississauga. Show hours are Friday, Nov. 26, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 27, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 28, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission prices are $ 15 for adults, $ 8 for youths 13-17 and free for kids under 13.
