Max the Dog and Teddy the Cat Take Action to Help Earthquake and Tsunami Animal Victims in Japan
Grants Pass, OR (PRWEB) March 31, 2011
After reading a CNN news report Sunday, Teddy, a mixed-breed cat and Max, a purebred Cocker Spaniel, moved quickly to help the four-legged victims of the earthquake and Tsunami in Japan. Max and Teddy are official “spokes-pets” for Animal Advertising Center, LLC, a newly formed animal advertising and information company, whose mission is to provide a platform for animal suppliers and pet products to reach a specific animal and pet-centered audience. In return, Max and Teddy donate a portion of their net profits to support animal rescue and animal preservation organizations.
Teddy and Max asked Winfield, the owner of Animal Advertising Center, not to wait but to help their animal brothers and sisters now. Winfield reports that most rescue efforts so far in the disaster relief effort have been focused on human life and little for the animals.
Many foreigners that were living in Japan before the earthquake and tsunami are now leaving the country and their animals behind, many without any means of subsistence or even the means of escaping (some were left by their owners tied up or locked in their homes and unable to get food or water). The wild animals also seem to have been forgotten. Many small mammals, including some which may be listed as endangered or threatened, have also been affected by the catastrophe. Unfortunately, animal rescuers cannot get into these areas and consequently, information on what animals have been affected and what animals need assistance is difficult to make.
More help is needed for our furry, feathered and scaly friends. Animal Advertising Center, a limited liability company, headquartered in Grants Pass, Oregon, USA, is a startup company that will donate from net profits to non-profit organizations which put 90% or more of the money they receive into accomplishing their animal preservation, care and rescue missions. Since the Japan earthquake and tsunami happened before Animal Advertising Center officially launched, the co-owners, Winfield and Clare Frazeur were compelled to act quickly despite not being fully operational. Winfield reports, “We are donating $ 1,000 and giving graduated amounts of $ 250 each to the Japan Cat Network; Heart – Tokushima; Animal Garden Niigata; and World Vets.”
If you wish to support these groups please contact them as the coalition or individually.

Bethel, Maine has the Blues (Mountains That Is)
Bethel, ME (PRWEB) March 26, 2011
When it comes to mountains, Vermont has the Greens, New Hampshire has the Whites and Maine has the Blues. The Blues, better known as the Longfellow Range after Maine’s most famous poet, extend northeast from Bethel to 5,268 foot Mt. Katahdin, the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. The section of the Blues from the Androscoggin River to the Bear River in Grafton Notch is called the Mahoosucs, likely an anglicized Abenaki Indian term for “land that is hard to hunt in” or “abode of hungry animals”. Some historians believe the term means pinnacle or mountain peak.
Since the 1870′s travelers have visited the Bethel area to hike the peaks and neighboring foot hills, breathe the clean mountain air, spark their creative spirits and cure their blues. Not to be over-shadowed by the more publicized and well-known Presidential Range and White Mountains, the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce is reaching out to visitors of all ages and abilities to hike, walk and backpack the variety of trails found in the western Maine region.
There are over two dozen day hikes in the area including the Mt. Will Trail, Step Falls Nature Preserve, Table Rock Trail and Wright Trail leading up Goose Eye Mountain. The Grafton Loop Trail provides a three night backpacking trip for the adventuresome. In town, the Bethel Pathway along the Androscoggin River, Paradise Road and self-guided walking tours of the town’s historic district satisfy the casual, exercise walker.
Recently rebuilt, Table Rock Trail is a favorite with families. The 2.4 mile loop follows the Appalachian Trail’s white blaze to the blue-blazed trail. It rises gradually to a height of 900 feet above the trail head. An alternate route takes a steep ascent with minor caves that challenge and enchant the youngsters. From aptly named “Table Rock”, the vista includes 4, 180′ Old Speck Mountain, the third highest mountain in Maine. Step Falls near Grafton Notch was the Nature Conservancy’s first preserve in Maine. The 24 acre preserve trail follows Wright Brook, a braided stream of steeply cascading pools dropping over 250 ft-making this one of Maine’s highest waterfalls. This is an ideal hike for nature photographers. The Mt. Will Trail, developed by the Bethel Conservation Commission, climbs 730 feet through the Bethel Town Forest. The North Ledges Section is highlighted by a descriptive nature trail, followed by a hike to south facing ledges that afford views of the Androscoggin valley and Bethel village. The final rocky descent completes the 3.25 mile loop. The Wright Trail is a full day’s loop hike up to the 3860 foot summit of Goose Eye Mountain. This trail is part of the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands’ Mahoosuc Unit.
For its hiking visitors, Bethel offers a variety of lodging from restored Bed& Breakfasts, historic Inns, to resorts with swimming pools and golf courses, motels and campgrounds. Dining options range from a half dozen pizza places to Chinese, Korean, BBQ, vegetarian, English pub, microbrewery and fine dining. Day hikers can pick up a pack lunch at the local supermarket or specialty food stores. There is an outdoor outfitter right in town for those in need of hiking, backpacking and camping gear. The Bethel Chamber of Commerce office has trails maps for day hikes in the area and the staff will provide direction to the trail heads. For information on walking, hiking and backpacking contact the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce at 1-800-442-5826 or on-line at http://www.bethelmaine.com.

This Mother’s Day Serve Her Breakfast in Bed with Scrumptious Recipes From Two for Tonight
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 28, 2011
“Life’s memorable moments are not complete without a festive meal. At home, preparing a meal for someone special is an act of love, much more significant than buying flowers or candy. We are most susceptible to love after we have enjoyed a good meal,” Chef Jacques explains.
Romance is a tradition for Chef Jacques and his restaurant, the legendary L’Auberge Chez Francois, in Great Falls, Virginia. Long known for not only great food, but their unique setting, Jacques and his family have been serving up romance to their customers for almost 60 years. “Our customers love to come to the restaurant for the special occasions in their lives, whether it’s an engagement party, wedding, birthday or for Mother’s Day. We supply the food, ambience, and service; they bring their own romantic magic.”
Bring some romance to your house this year and surprise mom with a romantic breakfast in bed. These unique, yet easy recipes bring a bit of the Alsatian countryside to your kitchen. The recipes can be prepared in advance to minimize time in the kitchen.
Pipérade
Serves 2
This dish is a Basque specialty consisting of a rich stew of tomatoes and peppers, seasoned with onion and garlic, cooked in olive oil or goose fat, then mixed with beaten eggs and lightly scrambled.
2 tablespoons olive oil or rendered duck fat
1/3 cup finely chopped onions
1 large ripe tomato e/2 cup)
1 bell pepper, cored, seeded, and small diced, e/2 cup)
1/2 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
1 teaspoon tomato paste
Pinch of fresh chopped thyme or Herbs de Provence
Sea salt
Freshly ground pepper
Pinch of cayenne pepper or Piment D’Espelette
3 large eggs
2 slices of Jambon de Bayonne (thinly sliced) or country ham
Bring 1 quart of water to a boil and add the tomato for 10 to 20 seconds. Lift the tomato out of the water with a slotted spoon and drop into a bowl of cold water. Cool the tomato a few moments and remove from the water.
Peel off the skin and cut out the stem. Slice the tomato in half and place in a large-holed colander set over a bowl. Press the tomato halves to force out the juice and seeds. Coarsely chop the tomato pulp and set aside.
Heat the olive oil in a large casserole over medium heat. Add the chopped onions, tomato, diced pepper, garlic, tomato paste, and thyme; simmer for approximately 15 minutes until the vegetables are tender and the sauce has thickened. Season with salt, pepper, and cayenne.
While the sauce cooks, sauté the ham slices in oil or rendered fat.
Beat the eggs with a wire whisk. Slowly pour the beaten eggs into the hot sauce, stirring constantly with a large kitchen spoon. Cook until the eggs are just set and creamy.
Place a slice of ham on a warm plate and top with the mixture. Serve at once with slices of toasted country bread.
Variation: Piperade may also be served with ham on the side.
Piment D’Espelette are peppers from the Basque country. They are sometimes found dried and ground in specialty food stores.
Fruit Crumble
Serves 2
The only blue fruit, blueberries, contains a host of minerals such as iron and magnesium and is rich in Vitamins A and C. A crumble is a British dessert in which raw fruits are topped with a crumbly pastry mixture and baked.
THE FRUIT:
8 ounces mixed berries: raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries
1-2 tablespoons honey
THE TOPPING:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons almond or hazelnut flour
2 tablespoons evaporated cane juice
To Prepare the Fruit:
Remove any stems, clean the fruit, and place in the bottom of a shallow oven proof dish 6-8 inches in diameter. Depending on the ripeness of the fruit, drizzle 1-2 tablespoons of honey over the fruit.
To Prepare the Topping:
Cut the butter into small dice and allow to soften slightly. Place the flour, almond flour, and evaporated cane juice in a mixing bowl. Add the butter using the tips of your fingers. Mix to obtain a coarse meal.
To Assemble:
Cover the fruit with the coarse meal and place in a preheated 375 degree oven; bake until the crumble browns, approximately 12 minutes.
Serve warm with crème fraîche.

Controversial Goose Attack Video Launches Intellectual Property Recruitment Firm; Fellows and Associates
London, UK, (PRWEB) August 23, 2009
Patent and Trade Mark Attorney recruitment firm, Fellows and Associates launches its brand with a YouTube video entitled ‘Goose Attack At Wedding’. The video, which features a photographer in an entanglement with a goose, was released on YouTube, Dailymotion, and other leading sites last week. The photographer’s unconventional approach to problem solving could be seen as controversial.
The video was filmed guerrilla style in Leeds, West Yorkshire, with a combination of professional actors, film crew and extras (including the part of the photographer) recruited via Facebook and Gumtree. Alan Jones who plays the photographer said, “I was really excited to see myself on YouTube but hope my debut is not too controversial. It’s been a real demonstration of what can be achieved and shows businesses that perhaps would not have traditionally advertised on Television that they can produce a fantastic result and be able to distribute their work in an audiovisual format.” There has so far been no comment from the goose.
The film took three months to develop with the majority of that time spent brainstorming ideas with the production team. Concepts that were dismissed included running across cows, beat boxing, large inflatables, kids driving trucks, 1950s style educational films and building a time machine. “The aim was to find an idea that was provocative in order to elicit a response and maximise the video’s potential for spreading virally whilst maintaining a balance of responsible advertising” says Fellows and Associates Managing Director, Pete Fellows.
Fellows and Associates are the first UK recruitment firm in the Intellectual Property sector to experiment with viral video advertising.
“Our competitors in Intellectual Property sector recruitment do not make the best use of the online resources available,” says Pete “we believe a social networking strategy including sites such as Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook and YouTube is now crucial to brand awareness and building on our network of contacts throughout the world”.
“Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys are highly networked and usually have a great deal of international contacts. Using social networking is a great way of bringing these contacts closer together”.
The company has had a social networking strategy from the outset; with Twitter integration, embedded videos and a comprehensive news section. Its launch campaign which has included the mysterious website: yesiamcurious.com, associated Linkedin and Facebook strategies and upcoming teaser print adverts in leading IP publications such as the CIPA Journal and the ITMA Review culminated in the release of the ‘Goose Attack At Wedding’ video. “We like to be daring in our advertising and hope that we are achieving that goal,” says Pete. “Hopefully this will not be the last video we produce and we will welcome volunteers with great ideas for our next one!”
Whilst some sectors of the recruitment industry have embraced new technology Pete sees a gap in the market when it comes to the Intellectual Property sector. “We are just beginning to think around the possibilities of using this technology – for firms of Patent Attorneys that are recruiting and may wish to raise their profile we could post a job on our website, in print and as a video; have an article about working for that firm written by a Partner that could be published on our website then distributed via Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook and other social networking sites for immediate results. The effectiveness of this strategy will increase with every advert as we build our viewers and readership. This gives Fellows and Associates a genuine advantage in a market where we can do the same as everyone else extremely well but in addition offer so much more.”
Fellows and Associates do plan to return to more viral advertising in 2010 and are more than happy to consider ideas suggested by visitors to their website. They’ll also likely need some extras so could potentially offer another staring role to a YouTube hopeful like Alan. However, Alan has not ruled out a return himself, “this was a great experience and I would look forward to the opportunity to feature in other videos in the future.”

Now in its second year, San Diego Mega Star is a three tiered, elimination-based, individual singing competition. The contestants are evaluated in five areas, by a panel of three to five highly qualified, industry-based judges. Criteria for evaluation include; believability of the performance, does the performer emote well and see to understand what they are singing about? Originality: does the performer add their own touches to the song? Pitch, tone and rhythm: does the performer hit the right notes on the right pitch and is their voice in rhythm? Diction and timing: can you understand the words that the performer is singing and is it in time with the music? Overall performance: was the performance entertaining? Does it grab your attention and hold it until the end?
