What is the message, meaning, or history of the iconic image of a “rainy day duck” carrying an umbrella?

September 15th, 2011 5 comments

Question by Max Action: What is the message, meaning, or history of the iconic image of a “rainy day duck” carrying an umbrella?
Theories and facts appreciated. What’s up with ducklings with umbrellas? Can this be traced back to anything?

Best answer:

Answer by Gurney
Besides the image of a yellow baby duck in galoshes holding an umbrella inspiring a particular mood-set, the umbrella traditionally represents protection. That’s why Traveler’s Insurance used to use the umbrella as their company logo. If a creature such as a duck, practically immune to the effects of foul weather, would use an umbrella as insurance against the rain, then it must feel especially secure with whatever product is being sold.

That’s from a company logo standpoint. Whatever else it means is likely based on the feelings the image inspires. I used to have a framed picture in my bathroom of a yellow baby duck in yellow galoshes with a yellow umbrella. It seemed appropriate in a place where we took our showers.

People have been hunting ducks with the aid of duck decoys for several hundred years. Decoys are an essential part of fooling the ducks to fly into shooting range. However, unless you have the experience and knowledge, you need to know how to set them up and use them properly.

Some people may think that the same old duck decoy spread will work in different locations, at all times of the year, but this is not the case. You need to find out what works in

What is the meaning of “Bang for the Duck”?

Question by cactuslady: What is the meaning of “Bang for the Duck”?
I ran across this word while reading some article.
Firstly I thought it is kind of useless thing. That’s because, as you know, ducks don’t need their bangs. However I read the example below this and it said its meaning is value for the money spent.
So, I found out that I totally misunderstood its meaning. Am I right?
I’m lost. Please help me! What’s the meaning of it?

It’s actually, “Bang for the Buck” not duck. Hopefully It makes more sense now.

Duck Hunting – The Pride Of True Sportsmanship!

September 8th, 2011 Comments off

Duck hunting is a practice many hunters take great pride in. It is known for hunters that have high ethics and a great respect for their sport. A good duck hunter follows the laws and regulations set up by his local government because they realize these laws are meant to protect the duck population. Many of the hunters also use their kill for food, so the hunt is much more than a thrill of the kill attitude for them. Many bird hunting seasons overlap, as do the

Aflac Duck

Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) February 7, 2011

Advertising icon undergoes carefully orchestrated makeover by award-winning firm

How does an advertising icon like the Aflac Duck celebrate its tenth Birthday? With a refreshing renewal of its public image by award-winning brand identity design firm Robert Louey Design/Pagenova. A year in the making, the gentle makeover of the beloved duck includes new color palettes, collateral materials and graphic environments.

“We worked very carefully to maintain the Duck’s legendary equity. Each aspect of the new design was carefully orchestrated around the main image of the beloved Duck,” says Robert Louey.

A photo shoot captured the Aflac celebrity in profile, poised, in flight and aflutter to enrich the design possibilities. A wide array of graphic environments — some with famous quotations, others with simple memorable commands (“That Way”) — were then created for the year-long rollout worthy of a duck.

Other elements include a new Aflac stationery system, a refreshed assortment of brochures, business-to-business outreach materials and internal branding messaging that makes further use of the color palettes and graphic environments devised by the Santa Monica based firm.

Louey also designed the visual components for Aflac’s annual end-of-year FOCUS conference, where top sales people are recognized and regaled. The Nashville event utilized the rebranding designs and banners and as well as short films displayed on a 360-degree screen to introduce the company’s new goals for 2011.

The 10th birthday celebration makeover was conducted under the leadership and guidance of President Paul Amos II and CMO Michael Zuna.

Through the years they have won over 300 international communication arts awards while offering Fortune 500 companies and other major entities assistance in creating identity systems that solve complex communications challenges.

The first tool many hunters swear by is a duck call. These can be

“Selecting Good Data was pretty simple,” said Kenneth Goldman, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Black Duck Software. “Good Data provides a simple and affordable way for us to analyze our customer behaviors over time. The better we identify which users at which companies through which channels convert to paid customers, the faster we can grow our business.”

The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin sponsored the Duck Decorating Contest at the annual Great American Tobacco Duck Race, part of the 2nd annual Fox 50 FamilyFest, held at the American Tobacco Campus (ATC) in Durham, NC, on Saturday, Oct. 2.

In addition to the sponsorship, Attorney Tara J. Williams, head of the Intellectual Property Department, and Sharra Eurto, human resources manager, manned the James Scott Farrin Duck Decorating Tent.

It is estimated that about 4,500 people attended the event, sending 1,500 ducks racing down the Ole Bull River which runs through the center of the American Tobacco Campus. Prizes were awarded to the best decorated ducks, as well as the first, second, third and last-place finishers.

Approximately $ 32,000 was raised to support the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Explorer Post 50 and Duke University Children’s Hospital.

The Interfaith Food Shuttle provides food for people at risk of hunger in seven counties in the Greater Triangle Area. In 2008, it distributed nearly six million pounds of food through partner agencies and direct distribution programs.

Milton Keynes, Bucks (PRWeb UK) May 26, 2009

In a recent article published by Action Storage on or about May 26th 2009, Action Storage mistakenly implied that the recent closure of the Fat Duck Restaurant was due to food poisoning caused by poor and unsanitary storage of food at the restaurant. Action Storage would like to make it very clear that the comments in the article were inaccurate and that in fact there is no evidence to suggest that Mr. Heston Blumenthal allows any practices that would lead to food contamination or that he is guilty of poor hygiene at his restaurant.

Mr Blumenthal takes the welfare of his customers very seriously and sends samples of his food for testing on a very regular basis. In this current episode the entire menu had been tested and all results had proved negative.

Action Storage would like to apologise to Mr Blumenthal and the Fat Duck for any misunderstanding that the article may have caused and any personal distress or embarrassment caused to Mr Blumenthal by the article.

I need a very quick answer,please.

Best answer:

Answer by handymanmike
Buchanan was the sitting president when South Carolina seceded from the union, not Lincoln. Lincoln had yet to take office after winning the election in November, but technically speaking, it was Buchanans duty to respond to that proclamation, he was after all, the presiding executive of the country. Instead, he realized that this was to be Lincolns conflict, since it was his election that initiated the souths reaction, so he did nothing, knowing that he would be out of office in a few weeks anyway.
