Good Weather for Ducks this Weekend at the Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard

Cooperstown Lions Club Rubber Duck Racing on Fly Creek

The Cooperstown Lions Club is hosting its third annual Duck Race Weekend September 10 & 11 to benefit local charities. The main event will be multiple rubber duck races down Fly Creek in front of the Mill culminating in a final race with the winner taking home a $ 100 cash purse. “This year’s high water should make for some fun racing. The unique feature of our duck racing is that visitors can watch the race from start to finish and purchase multiple ducks to enter the competition,” says Jason Tabor of the Cooperstown Lions Club. Racing ducks cost one dollar each per race and races begin at the top of each hour starting at 11:00 and ending at 3:00 with the final grand-prize race on Sunday. Additional family-friendly activities planned are duck themed carnival games for children, inflatable bounce houses, and musical entertainment.

Lions Club’s main initiatives are eyesight conservation and community betterment and the club will be accepting donations of used eyeglasses that are then recycled for distribution in less developed countries. Funds raised from the weekend are reinvested back into the community through the Lions Club Mini Grant Program offered in the spring and fall. The Lions mission is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions Clubs.

The Just Ducky Event runs from 10 am until 4 pm both Saturday and Sunday with no admission fee. The Fly Creek Cider Mill will be pressing sweet cider both Saturday and Sunday and visitors can watch the entire process in the Mill’s Cider Gallery. Ducks Unlimited Launches Cutting-Edge Waterfowl Migration Map For 2010 Season

Memphis, TN (Vocus) September 24, 2010

The best way to find waterfowl during the fall migration is to ask those who are constantly scanning the skies for south-bound flocks – waterfowl hunters. Ducks Unlimited is offering the opportunity to access migration information from hunters all across the country through DU’s 2010 Waterfowl Migration Map, the most in-depth and widely-used online waterfowl migration mapping tool.

A combination of cutting-edge technology and word-of-mouth communication among duck hunters and waterfowl enthusiasts, the DU Migration Map is the most comprehensive waterfowl migration map on the web.

“The migration map is one component of DU’s ‘Opening Day’ website, the ultimate waterfowl hunter’s resource aimed at getting waterfowl hunters geared up for the season,” said Anthony Jones, DU’s web director. “We received more than 10,000 reports for the migration map last year, which greatly benefited waterfowl hunters in their scouting and planning efforts. During the off-season, we used feedback from supporters to improve the map. The result is a more powerful and innovative asset that duck hunters can’t afford to miss.”

The migration map allows users to report waterfowl activity and hunting conditions in their local areas. Visitors loading the map will then see an aerial view of North America with colored markers scattered across it. Each marker represents user-submitted reports with color-coded waterfowl concentrations. Hunters can click on any marker to view the detailed reports, and in some cases, see aerial maps of their favorite hunting spots. Waterfowl enthusiasts are also encouraged to submit reports and can use the map to follow the annual migration.

The 2010 Waterfowl Migration Map includes features like detailed reporting, weather forecasts, improved imagery and navigation, a full-screen map, e-mail notifications for reports submitted from personally selected locations, historical data based on reports from throughout the season, and a clear activity scale showing pre-migration, peak-migration and post-migration activity

“We’re always looking for ways to improve our technology to better serve our members,” said Robby Parker, DU’s manager of web development. “As waterfowl hunters and enthusiasts use the map, we will continue to enhance this and other online applications to provide maximum value to our members and supporters.”

DU’s 2010 Waterfowl Migration Map is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, exclusively on the Ducks Unlimited website.

Ducks are becoming more and more popular as choices for pets these days. There are many reasons for this. For one, it doesn’t take a lot of money to keep ducks. They are considerably cheaper than cats and dogs. Ducks are also harmless compared to their venomous counterparts, like certain reptiles and vermin. Ducks Unlimited issues statement on Gulf Oil Spill

Memphis, Tenn. (Vocus) May 27, 2010

In a statement released today, Ducks Unlimited CEO Dale Hall emphasized that the organization has reached out to both federal and state agencies and offered its assistance and technical expertise in the damage assessment and habitat restoration phases of the 36-day-old Gulf disaster.

“DU understands the frustration of watching this happen,” Hall said. “We are frustrated as well, but right now it is important for the federal agencies and BP to handle the emergency response and containment phase. We have offered our assistance in any way we can.”

Oil has been spilling into the Gulf since April 20, 2010 and is currently moving into wetlands that support waterfowl, shorebirds and other wildlife. These wetlands are also vital to the livelihoods of many citizens in the region. The Gulf Coast is a top conservation priority for DU and the organization is committed to reestablishing healthy wetlands in the Gulf.

“I have spoken to the director of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and directors of state wildlife agencies in Louisiana, Alabama and Florida,” Hall explained. “They know we are there to help when we are needed. DU plans on doing what it does best and that is restoring and revitalizing wetland habitats. We have worked hard in the past to reinvigorate these ecosystems and we will continue to do so.”

The Gulf Coast is one of DU’s top five priority habitats and the region is one of the most significant wintering areas for waterfowl in North America, having wintered up to 9.2 million ducks and more than 1.5 million geese in some years. The area of southeast Louisiana most directly and immediately affected may winter more than 4.6 million waterfowl.

The National Hockey League’s (NHL) Anaheim Ducks and Skyview Networks announced today the renewal of their multiyear contract. Skyview Networks, an integrated professional sports broadcasting company, specializing in satellite distribution, automation systems and syndication, will continue to provide its full package of broadcast services to the Anaheim Ducks. These services include radio distribution, F.A.S.T. (Flexible Audio Storage Technology) Inventory Management Software for radio and television and F.A.S.T. Network Automation Software.

Skyview Networks has been the Official Radio Distribution Provider of the Anaheim Ducks since 1999 and produces and distributes all Anaheim Ducks radio broadcasts including the pre and post game shows of the radio flagship station, KLAA-AM 830.

The Anaheim Ducks have also become one of the first franchises to use Skyview’s F.A.S.T. Inventory Management Software for advertiser scheduling of their television broadcasts on stations KDOC-TV and Fox Sports Prime Ticket. The system provides affidavit and invoice generation for faster and easier client billing and grants the franchise full control of advertiser inventory for both radio and television.
