Murder Of Six Wisconsin Hunters Leads To Rush To Judgement By Anti-Gun Forces

Murder Of Six Wisconsin Hunters Leads To Rush To Judgement By Anti-Gun Forces

(PRWEB) November 26, 2004

Before the sixth victim was even pronounced dead, though, anti-gun groups and politicians were quick to call for new restrictions on guns. The Violence Policy Center (VPC), the Wisconsin Anti-Violence Effort (WAVE), and a member of the Wisconsin state assembly all called for bans on so-called “assault rifles.”

The problem is, the rifle that Vang used is not an “assault rifle,” an “assault weapon,” or even an SKS, as first reported in the press. The rifle is a Saiga 7.62×39, a relatively inexpensive import that is widely used in hunting in a number of states.

What’s more, the problem isn’t even whether Vang used an “assault rifle” or a conventional, wooden-stocked rifle. After all, a rifle’s appearance doesn’t make it any more or less deadly. The problem is what causes people like Vang to murder others.

What is fascinating about the above diatribes is that the Saiga 7.62×39 is not a real “assault rifle,” which the US Department of Defense defines as a medium-cartridge, shoulder-fired selective-fire weapon capable of full-auto or semi-auto fire.

Even more ironic is that the Saiga 7.62×39 doesn’t even meet the standards as an “assault weapon” under the now-sunsetted 1994 cosmetic ban: it does not have a pistol grip, flash suppressor, bayonet lug, or any other features that make it look like a real military rifle.

Moreover, the above press releases demonstrate the anti-gun forces willngness to play fast and loose with numbers. In 2003, 52 law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty. According to the FBI, 34% were killed with handguns, and 10% with rifles. Do the math. The anti-gunners are, simply put, lying.

There’s no doubt that every law-abiding gun owner has the victims and their families in their hearts and prayers. Those of us in Wisconsin will remember the victims and their families long after the national press has had their day with the story.

Those of us who own and use guns responsibly will look to see what, if anything, we can do to prevent further tragedies such as this.

Once again, though, the anti-gun forces have shown what they truly are: headline-grabbing ghouls, quick to shoot press releases and slow to recognize the facts.

Did you hear about the Drinking Deer Hunters?

June 28th, 2011 5 comments

Question by g4acre: Did you hear about the Drinking Deer Hunters?
Drinking Deer Hunters

One night at a local bar frequented by a bunch of deer hunters who were waiting for the opening day of deer season, the local sheriff scoped out the joint for possible drunk drivers.

As he waited, eventually a patron stumbled out of the bar, fumbled for his keys, tried them in three different cars until he finally found his, got inside and rested his head on the steering wheel. The deputy knew he had his drunk driver, so now all he had to do was wait for him to start his engine and pull out of the lot.

A few hours passed by and most of the other deer hunters had left by then, when the patron abruptly lifted his head, cranked the car up and drove out of the lot like a bat out of hell. The deputy followed him and stopped him promptly. He administered the breath-o-lizer test and it read 0.00.

Confused, the deputy asked the driver what the hell was going on. The driver looked at him innocently and said, “Well, tonight I’m the designated decoy.”

Master Outdoorsman J. Wayne Fears Authors Book to Help Deer Hunters Learn to Hunt Clear Cuts with Success

How to Hunt Clear Cuts Successfully

Pottstown, PA (Vocus) April 6, 2010

Clear cuts, much to the surprise of many hunters, can be a trophy hunter’s bonanza. To be successful, the hunter must understand the role clear cuts play in the deer’s overall habitat, and how to hunt the various stages of clear cut growth.

Author and master outdoorsman, J. Wayne Fears, has written a book that examines the growth stages of clear cuts, the value each stage is to the deer, and the various ways to effectively hunt each stage from year one through 30. This 144-page paperback also addresses long-range shooting techniques and how to hunt corridors found in clear cuts.

How to Hunt Clear Cuts Successfully is a guidebook to help you learn how to harvest big whitetail bucks in a clear cut by using the right hunting technique at the right time. Author J. Wayne Fears states, “One of the challenges to hunting a clear cut for a period of years, is that each year the forest changes and requires that the hunter adapt. Those who can adapt will find clear cuts, in good deer country, to be a new source of hunting where the woods aren’t crowded with hunters and the bucks grow big.” How to Hunt Clear Cuts Successfully tells you how.

How Hunt Clear Cuts Successfully is available for $ 8.95 at http://www.protoolindustries.net.

J. Wayne Fears has worked with white-tailed deer and deer habitat improvement for four decades. For almost ten years, Wayne was the Forest Recreation Manager for a major paper corporation where he was responsible for managing one-half million acres for deer. He has written a number of books on deer hunting and management including Hunting Whitetails Successfully, which sold over 500,000 copies. How to Hunt Clear Cuts Successfully is the second of a series of guidebooks on deer hunting and management Fears is writing for Pro Tool Industries.

Hunters, do you really think the ATF means to leave you and your “intermediate caliber sniper rifle” alone?

March 14th, 2011 4 comments

Question by akluis: Hunters, do you really think the ATF means to leave you and your “intermediate caliber sniper rifle” alone?
Think about it, the brady bunch talks big about the 50 BMG “sniper rifle” and yet in all their demands and bills, they always slip in “and intermediate caliber sniper rifles’ too.

Look at what the ATF is doing to Cavalry Arms, do you really think they would have more mercy for you and your sniper rifle? (any scoped bolt action rifle of .223 caliber or larger…)
Cavalry Arms is a small company set up by some gulf war vets that started making all polymer AR-15 lowers with the stock attached for all weather resistance and light weight reasons. They are also the least expensive lower on the market. Then they started adding funky dye to the plastic for even more fun and had matching handguards made too.

Cav Arms guys are friendly and just your average working joes, until yesterday

The jackboot thugs of the ATF are bending them over and forking them up the receiver end.

The ATF stormed in and without saying why seized everything and I mean everything. Then, they set up some tables outside and started throwing it around willy nilly. There is NO reason for them to be doing this out in the open except to make a media spectacle.
The ATF doesn’t care that the info they are going on is probably false. Heck, they probably prefer it that way. See, the barge in, seize the computers and the hardware, and the company cannot pay it’s rent etc.
folks are rallying around and donating to Cav Arms defense fund, and buying cav arms products, just to get cash flowing their way.

https://www.agparms.com/product.php?productid=16148&cat=258&page=1

The lower sold above has 100% of it’s proceeds going to Cav Arms, and will be engraved with “Cav Aid 2008″

Are Game Officials Entrapping Hunters with Decoys?

January 10th, 2011 Comments off

Recently many stories have been published about game officials using decoys to catch hunters in illegal acts. All of these stories seem to have one theme that hunters are constantly breaking hunting laws by shooting animals out of cars. Although all of these stories highlight the negative aspects of hunting it makes me wonder how many decoy traps result in nothing? With all of these increased occurrences of hunters shooting game decoys some people question game officers saying that the placement of the decoys is entrapment.

In the article above it shows that 8 out of the 29 cars that drove by the decoy attempted to hunt it with only 6 doing so illegally. This number seems very high and I am disappointed in the hunters of the area who hunted illegally. I find it amusing that the media seems to only publish negative stories surrounding decoy hunting. Don’t get me wrong I feel that if you illegally hunt you deserve to be punished and I know of a few people who have been caught shooting decoys. When you break the law you need to be punished.

With more and more reports of people shooting decoys I think that more needs to be done to educate hunters and encourage them not to hunt illegally. As the technology used in the decoys increases decoys will look and act more realistic which will mostly likely cause more incidents. With all the negative press it seems that the only thing being accomplished is destroying the reputation of all the good hunters out there.

The placement of the decoys is seen to some hunters as being entrapment because they feel that the decoys are encouraging them to do something that they otherwise would not have done. Using the decoys as been reviewed by courts and they were deemed legal because they in no way encourage the hunter to fire shots. Just because you see an animal that you can hunt and it is easy to kill doesn’t mean you have the right to hunt it. In my opinion all of the hunters that are looking to take these decoys while driving by are just looking for an easy kill and that takes away some of the fun in hunting.

All of these hunters seem to not support the Fair Chase which encourages hunters to be in the field with their rifle when the hunt. If you are hunting from inside your car I don’t see how you are in the field? To me I don’t see how you can consider it hunting if you are in a motorized vehicle chasing down an animal. Unless you are handicap and have limited mobility I think that you should be punished for hunting with a motor vehicle, and in most states you are.

What is you opinion on the use of decoys by wildlife officials? Is it entrapment or are these hunters giving hunting a bad name?

Hunting Snow Geese In Spring – Best Season For Hunters

January 10th, 2011 Comments off

While fall is typically the season associated with goose, there are some major benefits to getting a crack at the snow goose earlier in the season. The weather and migration can add a whole new level of excitement and challenge to the spring snow goose hunt.

While a spring season isn’t availbale in every state, in the more northern reaches it is a popular occurence. In some states, such as North Dakota, between the two seasons, snow goose hunting is available for six months of the year. For the hunter looking to get some practice in for the fall season, the spring can be a great time to get out in the field. For many states it is the first hunting season of the year, with opening day typically in mid-February. Knowing the bird’s migration patterns and climate will greatly influence a hunt; the snow geese follow the melting snow line pretty consistently. Hunting the snow goose is ideal where there is still snow on the ground, but also many patches of ground available; this will allow the hunter to better blend in with surroundings.

For the best chance at a successful season, the hunter should watch the weather forcasts in his region. While a hunter may expect to be seeing the geese in the next few days, a large spring storm may blow through to the south and the geese may be held up for a while. It’s also really important for a hunter to scout the area he’ll be hunting. Since spring goose hunting is often a messy sport with wet and muddy ground, a hunter should know the roads he’ll be taking and the field he’ll be sitting in. Any pre-dawn mishaps such as a vehicle getting stuck could ruin the entire day’s hunt.

Another factor that should be considered with spring snow goose season is the fact that these geese have been hunted in the fall and the winter in the southern states. They will be very weary of decoys and calls as that’s what they’ve just came from. It may be a good idea to avoid the use to these two items so as not to turn the flock away; sitting and waiting the old fashioned way may be the best idea for these spring birds. Since open dates and bag limits change from year to year, be sure to check local rules and regulations of the area you’ll be hunting.
