Cheap Goose Decoys

Duck hunting in rivers and streams can pose more problems then ponds and other solid bodies of water and requires different strategies, extra equipment in the form of a boat, duck decoys, and wading gear.  Although hunting for ducks on rivers and streams may pose as a bit more of a challenge, the rewards can be fantastic.

Smaller flat bottom boats make an excellent choice when hunting the waterways of rivers and streams.  You want a boat that will allow you to go in extremely shallow water at times.  Off springs of rivers can be exceptionally shallow and many times can lead to a quiet pool of water where you will find a host of ducks hanging out.  Therefore, it is important that your boat have to have the ability to maneuver in those types of situations.  It is highly recommended that the hunter wear a pair of waders for the occasions when the boat may need to be lifted over obstructions.

Depending on the width of the river or stream will determine the amount of decoys that will be needed in staging.  Smaller rivers and streams do not require many duck decoys to get the job done.  Four to five duck decoys will be all that you need in narrow rivers and streams.  Have your decoys already rigged with cords and weights prior to hitting the water for quick set up and easy retrieval in case you choose to change locations.  Anchor lines will not need to be as long as that of staging in larger and deeper bodies of water.  Use heavier weights on your duck decoys for situations where the water may be deeper and swifter moving then the norm.
